Johnny Cash est un chanteur, un guitariste et un auteur-compositeur qui a commencé sa carrière aux Etats Unis au début des années 50. Après 50 ans de carrière et plus de 90 millions d'albums vendus Johnny Cash, surnommé The Man In Black (l'homme en noir) s'éteint le 12 septembre 2003 à l'age de 71 ans. Il a profondément influencé la musique country et rock des années 60, 70 et 80. En 2005 le film Walk The Line avec Joaquin Phoenix s'inspire librement de la vie de l'artiste...
Réalisé en 2003, deux mois après la mort de l'artiste, le coffret "Unearthed" est produit à l'initiative du producteur Rick Rubin, qui a notamment travaillé avec Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Jake Bugg, Metallica, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Eminem, Shakira, Red Hot Chili Peppers et Kanye West, et publié par American Recordings. Cette édition regroupe des prises alternatives et inédites de ses plus grandes chansons ainsi qu'un album de chansons de Gospel et d'une compilation de ses meilleurs titres.
