En 1990, alors que le groupe "Ceremonial Oath" est en pleine crise pour cause de divergences artistiques, 3 de ses membres (Johan Larsson, Jesper Strömblad et Glenn Ljungström) se réunissent afin de créer une nouvelle formation musicale : C'est ainsi que le groupe de Deth Métal mélodique "In Flames" est né !

Malgré plusieurs reformations (il ne reste plus aucun des membres fondateurs) In flames réussit à garder une certaine continuité et devient rapidement l'un des groupes les plus populaires du genre...
